# External collection setup

I’ve followed the directions in [this document](https://help.adalo.com/integrations/external-collections-with-apis) but my records are not mapping correctly. Is there a different way of creating an External Collection using a custom API?

Hi Dennis,

It looks like you need to add a results key. You’ll need to read your API docs on how to structure that.

Sorry I can’t be more specific, it’d require a lot more info to answer this properly!

No, I actually don’t I’ve figured it out though. The Adalo documentation is the worst!
