🚨 Fix the Adalo Phone Input Limitation (Full Tutorial + Free CSV Included)

Hey Adalo devs,

Mario Flawless here, CEO of Templar Design, Adalo Expert, and Adalo Community Leader.

I wanted to share something important for anyone who’s purchased the Phone Input component by SpaceOfCode.
Back on September 29th, I reached out to them about a serious limitation with this component. As of October 21st, I still haven’t received a single reply or update.

So what are we supposed to do when support goes silent on purchased components by 3rd party developers?

We build our own flawless solution.

:warning: The Limitation

The component lets you set a default country, but it doesn’t allow you to preselect the saved country code when editing a record.

Example:
If your default is US (+1) and a user switches to Egypt (+20) when creating a record, the edit form still reloads with the US default instead of the saved Egypt code. There’s no way to dynamically set it.

That means editing existing records becomes unreliable and frustrating for both devs and users.

:wrench: What You’ll Learn

In this tutorial, I break down exactly how to:

  • Create a Countries collection with flags, names, abbreviations, and dial codes
  • Build a dual-screen system for country code selection
  • Use Magic Text to dynamically show and save flags, dial codes, and numbers
  • Set a default country automatically using a countdown timer trick
  • Store the full number (with country code) in the user’s record
  • Eliminate the need for the paid component entirely (and save yourself $25)

:light_bulb: Why This Matters

This solution gives you:

  • Full control over country selection
  • Editable, dynamic phone inputs
  • A flawless user experience for international audiences

No more default resets. No more frustration.
