Personally, No! But where are you stuck setting up this API? Maybe I will able to help here! If other makers experienced using these API’s they will also help here!

Regarding the API. Should I create an external collection here or do I need to use a custom action to retrieve it?

To get a list of records you would need a external collection! To create,update,delete and get a single record you would need custom actions!
