Yes it’s possible, might feel a bit clunky and won’t necessary feel native.
I have done the same dynamically from a list.
You basically need to show only the selected sub items when the ‘parent’ is selected. Store the parent ID in logged in user or in an input box.
IMO it’s not worth the hassle.
