Adding a toggle icon to an avatar list to show who is online

I am wondering if there is a way to add a throttle icon to an avatar list?
I would like to show a horizontal list of users with a small icon over their profile picture, then throttle the icon to show who is online. I can do this in a vertical list, but don’t seem to be able to do it in a horizontal list.

Yes I know how to do it for a vertical list. The question is how to do the same thing in a horizontal list.

Right now, there is no way to do that in the avatar list.

Just wondering why your team didn’t just take the functionality of your vertical list and make it horizontal?
