The the ‘E’ (and ‘/e’) characters are probably to allow an exponent to be specified. This would be to support condensing the input of large numbers that would otherwise be tedious to type in. e.g. instead of entering “200000000”, the user could type “2e8” (= 2*10^8).
Allowing multiple 'E’s does seem like a bug, however.
