What can I do with an API?

Hi, I’m looking at developing an app that pulls in data from an external questionnaire on another site in which they receive a score on the app. Is that possible to do and keep it updated using an API?

Is it also possible to create a checklist, and filter things based on that checklist?

Would really appreciate any help, thanks!
