When I experimented with this, I created an external collectio for Places Photos, with URL https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/details/json, and added 2 result keys: first is “result” and second is “photos”. Also I pass place_id in a query param.
The goal is to get photo references from place details (Place Details | Places API | Google for Developers).
And then I display photos in a list of this external collection. Photos are displayed by URL: https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/photo?maxwidth=400&photoreference=PHOTOREFERENCEFROMTHECOLLECTION&key=YOURKEY.
A bit glitchy - sometimes old photos are displayed when place is changed - but works in general.
