It’s not necessary. And when you expand it, you will often lose sight of the screen you intend to work on. Sure, it lets me see more of my screens at once, but I have to always make sure that the one I want to work on is far enough to the right before I expand the thing. If you just keep it expanded, you won’t have this problem.
