If you have a list of items, and clicking on an item takes you to another detail screen, and then you click on the ‘back’ button on that screen, you automatically jump back to the top of the list instead of being on the item you had clicked.
Maintaining the scroll position is very important for those apps which have numerous items, and scrolling down every time after clicking on a detail page seems like a bug that could probably be addressed easily, and should be.
On iOS this doesn’t happen on my live app.
I am not sure on web. The trick is on the type of transition of to the next screen. I found out Modal and Float transitions maintain the scroll position when you hit the back button.
Torch: Will try this out on my web app and report back!
Tried it, but didn’t work. Surprisingly, found that some pages maintain scroll position even when coming back from a detail page, while another identical page (except for different filters) don’t maintain the scroll position. I’ve been trying to figure out what’s different between these two pages that’s making them behave differently. Animation, transition, page elements are the same. Just the value of a filter is different (e.g. “ongoing” vs “done” status)
AddyEdwin: I saw that as well. I totally went through that as well. Surprisingly it does maintain position on my app when it went live.
Torch: This happens in mine, I have list of users who are searchable and then when you click on one and go back the screen jumps to the top of the page.
Ryan Lanier: when apps are live it won’t do that. Only in preview that happens and when you are doing a PWA.
very helpful, when users are scrolling a list of items & editing an item with a modal/pop-up, clicking OK or Cancel and not having to scroll back down every time…
Scroll in place would be nice too.
It’s a bug, it jumps in mobile web previewer on my device. Strange it wasn’t fixed during a whole year.
Is there any update on this? This feature is critical for apps supplying large feeds/lists. Imagine browsing Reddit, clicking a post to view details, then going back and losing your scroll position. This seems like a huge oversight. Please add!
This really is a must have feature for any apps using user generated content.
By far the biggest complaint I’ve been getting from users
Really need!
Really needed! Please guys put some priority on this!
Hey
is there any update on this? It is really a pain scrolling lists, going to detail screens and losing position when coming back to the list … waiting for two years now.
Agreed, would love to see this feature implemented!
Please implement this! This feature is instrumental for any app with either a long product list, or a feed-based experience.
