"Share to Whatsapp" button not working in the app - only previewer

I have a button with an external link to send a certain message through Whatsapp, using “https:// wa. me/?text=XXXXX”.

While in the phone previewer it goes straight to Whatsapp to select the contacts I want to send the message to, and it works perfectly, in the actual app (installed from App Store or TestFlight) it won’t go past “api.whatsapp.com”, where it says “it seems you don’t have Whatsapp installed.” and the button “Install” that takes me to the App Store.

Does anyone know why this happens?

I use https://wa.me/ and it works well on iOS and Android

How are you able to add a predefined message there, if you remove the “?text=” ?
