Almost every founder says it before they’ve seen a single screen: “I just want it to look premium, not thrown together.”
I’ve built 180+ apps on Adalo, and I can tell you exactly what separates the ones that look premium from the ones that don’t: it’s rarely the tool. Adalo gives you everything you need to build something that looks world-class, the apps that get there are simply built with a handful of decisions most people rush past.
A few things I pay attention to on every build:
Spacing does more than color ever will. Most people start by picking a nicer color palette first. Tight spacing is the fastest way to make a layout feel cheap. Add more padding, it’s a five-minute fix.
One font, used properly. Adalo lets you set weight per text block, which is great until it turns into 3 or 4 different weights on one screen with no logic behind it. Pick one font, use a bigger bold style for headings and a smaller regular style for body text, and stick to that everywhere.
Use the Animated transitions on actions. A Push or Slide on load instead of the screen just appearing. Two minutes to add inside the action flow, and it’s one of the easiest wins for making an app feel responsive instead of static.
Actually design your list empty states. Before there’s real data in a Collection, what shows up? An icon and one line of text tells the user the screen is working, not broken. Adalo makes this simple to build, most people just skip it.
Test with real content, not placeholder text. Pull real names, real descriptions into your Collections before you lock in a layout. Fake text almost never matches how real content actually behaves once it’s live.
Every one of these is fully achievable natively inside Adalo, no workaround needed. Across 180+ builds, it’s always the same story: the platform was never the ceiling. The apps that end up looking premium are just the ones where someone actually used what’s already there.
If your app is functional but doesn’t quite feel premium yet, that’s usually a quick, high-impact fix. Happy to take a look, feel free to reach out or book a free 20-minute call.
