Barcode Scanner API?

I would like to create an app which scans barcodes using the phone camera and returns the product name.

I am coming across 2 stumbling blocks - how to get the app to actually scan the barcode. I can only see the option of paying $35 for QR/BarCode Scanner PRO, is this the only one available and does it work?

Once I get the scanner up and running, am I able to return the product name in some way? I have found an database of all barcodes (https://www.barcodelookup.com/api) with an API function but don’t have any idea how to use this.
