I want a user to be able to drop a pin (not geo-location) on the map (lay-by/rest stop, point on a beach or by a lake etc (non Google map locations)), the user then get directed to a form to give a brief description and then other users can then see that pin on the map, click on it to see the pin creators description. I have seen apps that can do this but, is that something that can be done in Adalo?
Hi @ashtricky008,
Welcome to the community! ![]()
You could use this component made by @njimmy10 that is avaiable in the marketplace which can save the coordinates in the database and map those into the Adalo map component. : Marker Pin Location Component!
Thank you and have a great day!
Hi Dilon,
Thank for getting back to me. I am new to all this so excuse me if this seems a silly question - could I use the database in Adalo to do this or do I have to use an external database? I ask this because I was under the impression (when I searched online) that it was either impossible to do what I wanted to do or that I had to use an external database.
Hi @ashtricky008,
I don’t think you would need an external collection. You could use Jimmy’s component > enables the user to move the mark in the map and drop on a point > retrieve the lat, long from the component and save in a separate internal collection in the Adalo database > add the Adalo map component and connect that internal collection where the marker address would be the saved lat, long.
Jimmy’s component in the marketplace :

If you meant something else, could you share an example (screen recording) from an app that you’ve seen?
Thank you and have a great day!
Hi Dillon,
Thank your for your help!
I have managed to put the coordinates in to a database using that component. On another screen I have many buttons to take you to other screens with forms to describe places (beach/rest stop/petrol station etc) and they go to separate databases of their own. How would I be able to combine the coordinates with the places description? I’ve tried many ways and looked online but, can’t find a way to do this.
Please help!
Hi @ashtricky008,
You’re very welcome and thanks for the details!
Would this help you? : https://drive.google.com/file/d/18b6lW2oUASI-HW30BEAiIeRYAu2o4cRI/view?usp=sharing
Let me know!
Thank you and have a great day!
Hi Dillon,
Wow! I learnt so much from that video
. Thank you so much!
Is there a way for admin to be alerted to check the description and location details before it goes live on the map? Also, was there supposed to be sound on the video because I couldn’t hear anything?
Have a great day!
