New records not saving Logged In User (worked before)

Hi — I’m running into a strange issue and hoping someone has seen this before.

  • Older Story records correctly save the User

  • New Story records save with User = blank (“Select…”)

  • Form is set to Create New Story

  • User field is set to Logged In User

  • Relationship is Many Stories → one User

  • Signup/login seem to work normally

This started after I rebuilt parts of the login/signup flow.

Has anyone experienced this or know what might cause Logged In User to stop attaching to new records?

Would you mind sharing a screenshot of the setup of your action/Submit button action of your form?

If the relationship Stories - User is one to many, in the dropdown selection inside the action you should be easily able to select Logged in User.

A stupid error i still do after 7 years on Adalo: sometimes i delete User from database, but forget to logout in the preview (so any action that include Logged in User doesn’t work). Maybe this is the case.

Thank you so much for your suggestion — I really appreciate you taking the time to help.

I tested this by starting a fresh preview session and signing up/logging in again, but I’m still seeing the same issue (the User field is not being saved on new stories).

I’ve also submitted a support ticket with Adalo, so I’m hoping they can help identify what’s happening.

Cindy, is there a quick screen recording that you can share here showing your setup in the builder & app preview? (you can use loom.com) Also have you tried deleting the relationship > re-adding the relationship and configuring it in the form again? (not suitable in this case) Thank you and have a great day!

Thanks for the suggestions — that’s very helpful.

I haven’t tried deleting and re-adding the relationship yet, but I can test that next.

Before I do, I just want to confirm — when you say reconfigure it in the form, are you referring to mapping the recorded audio file to the file field using magic text in the form submission?

I’ll hold off on the screen recording for now and try that step first.

Hi Cindy, sometimes deleting the relationship and re-adding works (very rare issue) but that’s not a solution in this case because you already have records in the collection and I don’t think that’s the issue. I would suggest creating a new relationship with the same type keeping the current relationship as it is and with a new name, to see if that works and populates in the collection after adding into the form.

You’ve mapped logged in user for the relationship property in the automatic fields section of the form or as an update action in the submit section? A screen recording or few screenshots like Eugen mentioned would really helpful here! Thank you and have a great day!
