Creating app builder is not easy task, even Apple donāt have one and Canva is user app which is very different process behind it.
But I agree, rewriting the whole app is necessary as soon as it hits bottom performance or better before it hits.
What Adalo have done to us is to make their process extremely sophisticated so as users we can enjoy using it without being aware of the spaghetti source code it is running.
No code is an engine which have millions of nano components around it, they are all connected and run together to process our instructions, so very careful maintenance with resourceful technicians are needed to fix even the smallest thing.
This can easily be acknowledged to someone who has done sizable app coding before, scripts here and there, developers there and here, one bug fixing leads to 100 new bugs and so on.
I agree about the marketing of keynote-like building, app builder should not be treated as such, because of the logic that is needed that are inherently more difficult than just putting components on screen, and not everyone have time to learn or practice logic.
This kind of logic thinking is also the one that save makers to avoid limitations and do workarounds, which is most of normal users are hesitate to follow through.
Itās absolutely crazy to me that Adalo is sitting on their hands when it comes to a broken paid component that was just launched in their new marketplace.
I bought the Action Menu component the day the marketplace was launched (10 days ago).
I immediately noticed it simply doesnāt work for IOS and submitted a ticket.
Support was able to replicate the issue on their end.
ā¦
And the broken component is STILL active, able to be purchased.
Like itās broken. Take it off live so others donāt get this problem and cause more support backlog. Itās simple non-decisions like this that really scratch my head sometimes at Adalo.
I thought components are being tested before they added to the store? This is the third broken component. Gladly I did not purchased it after I saw your msg.
The component has been removed from the marketplace for now until we can guarantee it works on iOS. The developer has submitted a revision that is currently under review. Makers who have already purchased the component will continue to have access to it, even though its unlisted. Once it is relisted, there shouldnāt be anything else you need to do if you already purchased it.
@jessehaywood - what I suggest is some tracking of appliactions that are not working properly or give the users a chance to rate or sth like that. That could help a lot in the longterm perspecitve, as not every component or the customer support is good.
I for example use a component from nocodemonkey ( @Michael ) and the supports really lack.
Here is the problem: I **and many of my customers ** are getting a white screen on android devices (e.g. when I enter to few characters in the login screen). Here is a video from today ( i reported the bug at march 3rd here in the forum)
I reached out via mail: No response
I reached out via this forum - first response after having a post on it, BUT he is kinda ignoring me since then. I am just asking for a status updateā¦:
I totally agree with you. Some components on the marketplace like: āAction Menuā are a waste of money and you will not get any support or money back. A rating and comment option of the component would help other users!
I 100% agree. If a component makes the user experience better, than $15-$35 is a no-brainer. The cost to have a developer build a custom app isnāt even comparable. I know firsthand as weāre currently work with a developer on another project.
My only concern about third party component developers is the same issue I have with WordPress websites. If the plugins/components are not maintained by the developer, like the current qr code scanner, problems could arise. Also, the level of customer support can be an issue when itās a one person team creating components as a side hustle. Iāve experienced this with a well known component developer and had to remove the component. Am I complaining? Not at all. This is a risk you take when developing an app on a no-code platform. There will be hiccups.
