Why is this block overlapping the rest of the content?

Hi there,
I created the following list inside a rectangle and this list is not showing is there is nothing found.
But the issue is that even when the list is hidden and its size decreased, it’s actually all the size and is overlapping the rest of the content making the input and other things not able to be selected.

Any idea how to fix this by chance? I could potentially bring the other elements in front but I believe it’s still not normal to have this happening in my opinion… but maybe I’m wrong.
Thanks!

I wanted to send images to show you but I get the “An error occurred: Sorry, you can’t embed media items in a post.” error…

I guess we need a picture

Hi @ChristopheA,

Would you be able to upload the images into like Google Drive, Dropbox,… and paste the image URLs from there on here? Need to see your setup in the editor to see what’s actually happening like @nadavma2 mentioned.

Let us know of how it goes!

Thank you and have a great day!

@ChristopheA also it might be a good idea to make the screen recording to show how the issue is happening “in real time”. I usually use Loom (www.loom.com) for that, but there are plenty of other tools.

As for your issue - make sure that the list is actually inside the rectangle (look at the component tree on the left pane) and list borders aren’t overlapping with the rectangle. Also stacking more elements on top of this combination is not a good idea, as rendering engine may not understand what to do.

Best,
Victor.

Thanks for your help guys!

Here is a loom video explaining this:

Add loom[dot]com before this text to view my video.

For some reason, this forum doesn’t allow me to share links either… crazy…

@ChristopheA I am not quite sure I understand what issue do you have.

You are complaining about overlapping blocks in the inspector, but this is something which you should not care about (these blocks are built automatically by Adalo rendering engine and only Adalo developers know how this work inside).

If you would like to make an image placeholder and name clickable (it’s my guess), then you may try to put them into another rectangle, make sure they’re inside and not overlapping, and have this rectangle 1px below the violet rectangle or try to make it “touch” the violet rectangle (sometimes one approach helps, sometimes another).

Best,
Victor.

Thanks for your answer!

The issue is that the content just below the rectangle purple is not usable, because even if we don’t see it directly (We need to go to the inspect mode), the purple rectangle is overlapping the input and image below.

The size of this rectangle seems to be the full size even if the list is not showing anything.
It makes the input not focusable at all, because something is overlapping it, but we can’t see it unless we use the inspect mode.

I tried to add the input and image in a rectangle as well, and same issue happened, unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing the loom video @ChristopheA! (here’s the URL just in case to view the video easily for others. : Input Overlap and Rectangle Size Issues in My Application 🛠️ | Loom)

Would you be able to expand the ‘Group’ to see how it looks like in the editor? Maybe the group has adjusted after making the components a group or you may have sent the ‘Group’ to backward. (if that is, try bringing the ‘Group’ to forward from three dots ⋮ and bring forward)

Tried a similar setup to yours which does not face the issue you’re experiencing as I was able to enter text in the input while the list is empty. :

Thank you and have a great day!

Hello @ChristopheA,

I believe there is some issue with overlapping elements in your layout.
I’ve made a sample page with similar settings and everything works fine for me: Adalo Experiments 2025 - 1 October 2025 | Loom.

Just in case: in my opinion inspector is pretty useless without knowing the detailed logic of how Adalo renders the layout (and moreover, why it renders the layout like that). As this process is managed by Adalo engine, and there is no way for a Maker to change anything in the code, this may be useful only for bug submission. But that’s my personal opinion.

Best,
Victor.

Thank you so much, Victor! It’s really helpful!

I’ll recreate this and see if I have the same issue again.

I made a few tests and I actually noticed that I have this issue because in this rectangle I have the list + the title + description + the field.

When I put the list inside it’s own rectangle with nothing else than the list itself, this problem is solved.
