Best way to develop and test app with QR Code Reader?

From previous reading I see that the QR Code Reader is only testable when it’s running inside a native app. Does that mean I need to set up and build it to Android/iOS in order to run tests with it?

Does it also mean I need to wait in the Queue and create new builds every time I make a small change to see if my changes are working?
