**Request for Migrating an App to a New Account**

Good morning everyone,
I apologize in advance if this topic has already been discussed, but I could only find outdated methods from 2020.

I need to migrate an app developed by a previous developer to my account, as I will be the one working on it. However, for corporate privacy reasons, it’s crucial that the previous developer no longer has any access or visibility to the app: it must fully become mine.

Since I don’t have coding skills, I’d like to know:

  1. Is there a quick way to transfer the app so I can become the sole owner?
  2. Is simply changing the email associated with the app through the settings menu sufficient?
  3. If duplicating the app is necessary, what’s the correct process to ensure no data or interactions are lost?

Thank you in advance for your help and support!

Hi @Alessandro!

The right way would be to add the new owner to the app (the ID that you want as the eventual owner), and then submit a support ticket. If the new owner does not have an Adalo account, we suggest creating one independently before adding the user.

We will change the ownership of the app from the old to the new owner, which will give you the ability to both - change the organisation the app resides in, and remove the other developer on the account.

If you change the organisation/team of the app, you will have to recreate the Custom Actions in the app.

Hope this helps!

Dear Astha,

Thank you for your response and the clarifications provided.

I would like to ask if it would be sufficient to simply change the email of the project owner in order to retain all the settings and custom actions without any issues. If not, would it be preferable for the current owner to explain the custom actions to me before the transfer, so that I can recreate them without difficulty?

Thank you again for your assistance, and I look forward to your kind response.

Best regards,
Alessandro

Hi @Alessandro,

The Custom Actions would only need to be recreated if the organisation (Team) is changed. The ownership (user) does not affect the same.

If the team needs to be changed, we would recommend getting a lowdown / screen recording from the expert to be able to easily recreate the custom action as it will break.

Custom actions are tied to specific organisations - which is why one custom action once created can be used across many apps in the same team.

Okay, so if I have the project shared with me as a team, then change the email of this account’s user and remove the original owner account, will I end up with both a new user and a new team but still retain the same actions? Or will I still need to do what you suggested?

Also, if I were to simply change the email but keep the same team, would the actions remain intact? I ask this because the old team doesn’t need any of this anymore. So, if just changing the email while keeping the same team works, I could take over ownership of the old team with those actions and use my email to manage and maintain everything.

You’re really kind, by the way!

Hi @Alessandro!

Thankyou for your kind words.

If you simply change the email on the account, it will not result in a new user and new team. It will result in the change of ID for the old user, a potential change in password would be required, and the team would remain the same.

The actions depend solely on the team - if you change user ownership but do not change the team, the actions will not be affected.

If the old team does not have use of the app, you can do the same and it would save you the trouble of recreating the custom actions.

However, if you already have an account with the email ID, this would not work as the user email ID change would not be accepted.

I’m taking this to DM to get more specific information as the general details can get confusing.
